The Beautify Balham team has collaborated with a number of local schools with
projects around planting and litter picking.
Primary school children are curious and avid learners! Providing planting activities, in close proximity to their schools, has been hugely successful and incredibly rewarding. We plant bulbs, clear leaves, add mulch or compost, and deadhead flowers.
Often children arrive with a fear of touching the earth, and are frightened by worms, snails and spiders. Over the course of the term the participants learn about these valuable creatures, and the role they play in nature. It enhances their connection to nature which is incredibly important, as research shows that children in urban settings are increasingly disconnected from nature.
Our aim is to highlight the value of green spaces in the city and how children can play an important role in safeguarding these spaces.
Please contact us if your school would like to work with us on a project!
